Ms. Brown

My name is Vera Brown! I began my career in the early 80’s as a Teacher Assistant at Burke High School while furthering my education at The Baptist College (now Charleston Southern University) and the College of Charleston (now The University of Charleston). In 1985, I became employed at Courtenay Middle School as a Special Education (Resource) Teacher. After a few years, I changed positions at Courtenay and became the school’s Guidance Counselor. When Courtenay Middle and Rivers Middle merged, I then transitioned to Burke High School as the 9th Grade School Counselor.  In 2005, I then transitioned to James Island Charter High School as a Special Education Resource Teacher, where I retired in June 2015.

Yes, I’ve completed the circle and I’m excited to find myself once again on the property where it all began! I’m currently employed at Simmons-Pinckney Middle School (formerly Burke Middle-High School). I feel that many of the students on this campus are “my inherited grandchildren”, because I had the privilege of serving many of their parents! I look forward to building the same type of relationships with them and the community.

I’m also a Licensed Professional Counselor with a small private practice located at 27 Gamecock Ave., West of the Ashley.
