Hello!  I am Shirley Hardiman-Rawnsley.  This is a little about who I am and what I believe:

As a product of the Washington. D.C. Public School System,  I graduated from a high school in Bladensburg, Maryland and graduated college from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, with a B.S. in Speech, Language Pathology, and an Education Degree with an Endorsement in Language.  I received a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, and an Endorsement in Education, Administration, and Supervision.

It is my belief that, “All Children Can Learn.”  We as Educators are the link between them and their futures.  We build FUTURES

As the AVID Coordinator at SPMS, I teach students from each grade level.

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The mission of the AVID Program is to support and guide the student that has the potential and determination to go to college.  The strategies taught are those that will benefit the students throughout their educational career.

AVID Students do college research, discuss and identify areas of a possible Major in college, visit colleges, take and prepare for college entrance exams, learn specific note-taking and reading comprehension strategies, while building a team of peer supporters.  We engage in thought-provoking discussions and stretch their thinking and problem-solving abilities.

AVID is for the student "determined" to go to college.
